Should Ovechkin be deserving of MVP?

12:48 PM ET 04.17 | Once again, debate rages over whether Sidney Crosby or Alex Ovechkin is the best -- and the hockey world seems right once more. The incredible second half of the season for both Ovechkin and the Capitals has led to discussion that perhaps the Russian phenom deserves the Hart trophy, despite a lackluster start to the season. For Crosby, his injury and the fact that he'll likely miss a 1/4 of the season may work against him. Capitals coach Adam Oates, who admits his own bias, says that Ovechkin "absolutely" deserves the award.

much as I am an Ovie fan, if Sid is not considered for missing a 3rd, neither should Ovie for a great 2nd 1/2

There is no debate over who is the best (#87) but AO has carried this team into the division lead!

At least Sid was injured (and not on the ice) for the 1/4 of the season he missed. Ovie was on the ice all year and still missed over a 1/4 of the games.

Give it to Toews and end thje discussion.

Ovi is 8 points behind with 5 games left. Very possible but not a lock. Other than PP points Sid is better in every major offensive category. Plus he takes face-offs, Plus he does play on PK, plus that he plays ANY defense should be enough to put him over Ovi this year.

Everyone is stuck on the 1/3rd number of missed games. Right now he has only missed 6 of 42. If he sits the rest its 12 of 48. Last I checked my math that 1/4th of the season. Where is everyone coming up with 1/3rd?

Especially after I criticized him so much

I don't disagree. Ovie has carried the Caps for most of the year but he was not there for the first part of the season. Frankly Sid deserves the award as much as Ovie regardless of his missing time. Certainly the Pens could win without him, but not as overwhelmingly as they did. And, what else should Oates say, "Naaaah, he doesn't deserve anything". C'mon this a a silly controversy saying much but signifying nothing.

Plus who's to say he doesn't go right back into what he was doing the first half.

Off the Ovie thing for a bit but I have to say McPhee made a mistake trading Forsberg. He has loads of potential and should be a good one.

The whole "should he be deserving of MVP " question is grammar destruction at its best LOL . How about "Is" instead of "Should" Wasington Post.

I've heard that more than a few times and agree that it might have been a mistake. The only thing that makes sense is that George is playing for this year and the playoffs. Erat has played well so far (missed a few games with injury) but we haven't even clinched the playoffs yet and we'll have to wait. Forsberg has a great future and I wish him well.

I'm all for the Caps making the PO's and having a good run. I don't know the list of prospects Washington has it could be they have a number of young players NHL ready and Forsberg was expendable. Wait and see it is and best of luck to your team.
