Lowe clarifies comments about fans

04:01 PM ET 04.17 | The Edmonton Oilers released a video from president Kevin Lowe on Wednesday morning explaining his comments about the team's fans. During Monday's press conference introducing new general manager Craig MacTavish, Lowe classified the Oilers fan base as two segments; those who bought tickets to games and those who only watched on TV. If it isn't clear enough, Lowe made it appear as though fans who didn't buy tickets weren't as important as those who did. While teams obviously want a sold-out building at least 41 nights per year, fans who watch games on television are just as important. Television contracts are lucrative ventures, ones which are not possible without a healthy market of fans to broadcast to. The Oilers obviously acknowledge this and quickly tried to clean up the situation.

Why go after his own fans like that?

April 17, 2013  04:42 PM ET

let me translate: "Im sorry that I actually spoke the truth about what the club really feels. That the paying customers are our top priority and if you are a fan and not spending money on the team, you can **** right off. Why I still have a job is beyond me but I'll keep cashing the cheques."

A team that trades 'The Great One' is Lowe to start with.

Dumb **** He should be run out of town on a rail! Bigger people than him have lots their jobs for far less than that. Why should he be given a pass?

"Dumb Arse!"

Seems like Lowes doing his best to drive the customer away...maybe he should give out posters to the fans coming in with images of him carrying the Cup....lol.

Lowe was a player of mediocre abilities at best. He had the incredible good fortune of being in the right place at the right time and in no way qualifies him for the current job. He couldn't even explain what his job is to the media. As for him boasting about winning all those cups? It sounds very hollow when you think of who he played with. He makes it sound he was the reason they won. That's like to Dave Semenko claiming he's the reason for the Oilers won all those cups. Laughable!

Now there's a name I haven't heard in a while. Lee Elia made all the Phillies fans forget about John Felske.

I really don't understand why, after deciding that they needed to change management, they would retain Lowe, and then hire a retread for their GM. But what irked me, was when he was asked about his decision making, he stated that there was only one other team executive in the NHL that had more rings. Those came as a player Kevin. You or your staff haven't made a good signing since Pronger, and haven't made a have decent trade since they acquired Rolly and Spacek. That was 06. This is 2013. And now we are going to trust these guys to, as McTavish stated "Take risks". Katz should have cleaned house. Other then drafting, there haven't been any good decisions made in some time. But because I have 5 kids and haven't been to a game in two years, and i own more oilers stuff then I can name (jerseys, coats, cups, pens, key chains, piggy banks, collector figurines ect.) I'm not a real fan! Lowe is starting to sound like Burke!

I have a 50" LED HD flatscreen, a seriously comfy chair, a cold cooler of Smithwicks, my favourite snacks and friends to join me on game nite.

At the game, I get $11.00 cups of poor quality beer, overcooked hotdogs and the guy behind me screaming at the top of his lungs to decapitate the ref.

I prefer my game experience, and it's 1000% less expensive!!!!

His description of the two types of fans, applies to ALL team fans....duh
and like the story says, the TV market is lucrative too......he is not only stupid, but does not seem to have any market $$$ savvy.......his nickname should be slow Lowe.
