For Leafs to flourish, Burke had to go

07:52 AM ET 04.18 | The big fella is no longer in Toronto, and the Leafs are winning -- with many of his players, but Brian Burke may not deserve all of the credit for the turnaround. If there has been a Leafs MVP for the entire 48-game season, it might be James Reimer, the accidental goaltender who was drafted by John Ferguson. The other Ferguson draftees playing for the Leafs: Nik Kulemin, Carl Gunnarsson, Leo Komarov and Matt Frattin. That???s five players from Ferguson. One, Mikhail Grabovski, from Cliff Fletcher. And the two [Dave Nonis] picked up in smaller moves. ... One more thing you can credit Nonis for: Being somewhat invisible. There haven???t been any storms around the club, any of the explosions Burke had become famous for.

If Burke had acted in the media the way Nonis has thus far, he'd still be in a job and would be getting his due.But where would the fun have been in that?!

If Burke had of gotten rid of Wilson earlier and didn't make promises he couldn't keep he might still be there. He must be suffering big time seeing how well the Leafs are doing this year. There is a little fun knowing he is going through that.

But nothing this side of a brooks/Torterella press conference is as fun as Lord irk

The big fella is no longer in Toronto....

I didn't know Michael Collins was ever in Toronto.

QUOTE(#8):

Well that goes back to the whole media thing. How you expect to keep credibility with anybody when you contradict yourself on a regular basis, get brash when anybody questions your genius, seemingly are unable to construct a staff that functions, and smears his colleagues? He'll never have my sympathy. He dug his own grave.

I think that pretty well sums it up. I know the only time I had any sympathy for him at all had nothing to do with hockey. Was it about 3 years or so ago when he lost his son in an auto accident as I recall?

Tell Kypreos to get up, he's melting the ice again. --------------->

Kypreos is down again? what, did he pick a fight with a Cub Scout again?

The big fella

That's what Harry Crack calls his naughty bits.....

And if he closes his eyes and imagines, it seems true.

I don't wish concussions on anyone but seeing that picture always makes me smile.

I think it stems from his pushing the "I'm a Stanley Cup winner" on everyone...cuz you were the reason the Rangers were successful in the playoffs. He played a couple games and didn't register a single point. Probably didn't even get a shot on net.

The other guy from that team is Glenn Healy...sorry Glenn, but Mike Richter won all 16 in the Cup run.

These guys were fortunate to be in the right place, on the right team during the right time.

Burke had to go after dishing a load of draft picks for Kessel, while trying to re-build. He will be always be remembered for that in Toronto.

Sating the obvious, are we? That's like saying: "For the rain to stop, it had to stop raining."

His ghost, like Ballard's, will linger for a long time. Unless ...... the Leafs pull out a miracle.
