12:09 PM ET 04.18 | The defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens will open the NFL season on Thursday, Sept. 5 on the road. Their opponent will be revealed on Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET along with the rest of the NFL schedule, but prevailing belief is that the Ravens will head to Denver for a playoff rematch against the Broncos, according to the Denver Post. The Super Bowl champion typically kicks of the NFL season at home on Thursday night, but a scheduling conflict with the Baltimore Orioles has forced the Ravens to open the season on the road. Looking at their eight road opponents for the 2013 season, the Broncos offer the most intriguing matchup. The Ravens defeated the Broncos in the divisional round of the playoffs in a 38-35 double overtime thriller at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver. In addition to opening the NFL season with a rematch of that playoff battle, a game between Baltimore and Denver would also feature newly signed Raven Elvis Dumervil facing off against his former squad for the first time.

Not ideal, but the Ravens will bring it. The Ravens typically play up/down to their competition, so this should be a good one.

Ridiculous that the reigning Super Bowl Champions have to play their opener as an away game so the baseball team can use the stadium to play one of 162. Really?
