Chip Kelly incorporates read option into Eagles offense

12:26 PM ET 04.18 | Chip Kelly has the Philadelphia Eagles working on the read option during minicamp, according to Geoff Mosher of CSN Philadelphia. The play was the base of Kelly's offensive attack at the University of Oregon and helped him create one of the most prolific offenses in the NCAA. The read option spread across the NFL last season, with a number of teams utilizing the play effectively. Eagles quarterback Michael Vick seems to be a natural fit to run the style. His speed and running ability allow him to be a dangerous threat should he hold onto the ball, and that will make life even more difficult in the running game for defensive ends. Vick's passing ability will likely determine whether or not he can guide a potent Eagles offensive attack. Quarterbacks like Russell Wilson, Colin Kaepernick and Robert Griffin III, who were able to combine effective passing with speed, were best able to exploit defenses last year.

I like what Chip Kelly is doing. He will astound the inert minds of the NFL. His draft will provoke thought amongst fans and players, so sit back and enjoy a brew smoothie and be prepared for amazement.

I don't see how someone brittle like Vick will be able to survive in an offense like this. The "read" part isn't exactly his strength, as he's always struggled to read the defensive alignments.

He need some new wrinkles on last season's fad now that DCs everywhere have had an offseason to pick it apart.

Too bad he doesn't have anyone to run it. LOL

They're going to need at least six QBs on the roster to make it through the season. Vick and Foles should be able to cover their first six games. After that it's a crap shoot. Kelly's going to find the NFL a very tough place to play.

I think that's why it has to be optional.

Or.....

Sure he can read. Every book in his library is dog-eared.

And be astounded by how quickly he runs back to college football when he's system flops in the NFL.

I don't know (Un). I was just reading a really positive article on NFL.com about his system and how it all makes sense to the players. Sounds like they are buying in.
