Timberwolves replacing David Kahn with Rick Adelman?

12:00 PM ET 04.19 | While Rick Adelman's future appears dependent on the results of a medical consultation for his wife Mary Kay that is expected sometime soon, his return may not be as Minnesota Timberwolves head coach. There has been discussion about Adelman taking over David Kahn's duty as president of basketball operations and hiring the next coach, according to Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN Twin Cities. If the situation comes to fruition and Turner takes over as head coach, having Turner run the same offense as Adelman is huge because the players on the team seem to fully embrace the offensive and defensive sets Adelman installs. Chase Budinger recently went on record in saying that he would be more likely to return if Adelman returned. Kahn is under contract for one more year, so he would be let go or re-assigned to a different position.

Tired of the Kahn job dudes?

Blake has certainly made the most of his minutes in the last two games. Meeks and Duhon need to step as well for the Lakers to be "saved".

Oops wrong thread.

Still, a bit of a stunner that RA would take over for Kahn.

He should. Just fire Kahn. Less stressful to get Kahn's job. No travel needed.

I think they are referring to longtime Adelman assistant coach Elston Turner.

what are his qualifications for being a GM ?has he scouted ? watched college guys? international guys?just cause kahn stinks- you shouldn't replace him with a guy who's never been even an assistant gm.

Former NBA Player.
Been Coaching at the college level or higher since 1977.
1 of only 8 NBA coaches with 1000 wins.
1002-707 record as a NBA Head Coach.
Any head coach is heavily involved with player evaluation for each year's draft.
As a head coach, his time is limited on how much he can spend time scouting and evaluating talent, that's why every team has scouts on their payroll.
You don't get to his level of experience without knowing the duties of the GM and being able to do the job.
No GM locks the Head coach out of player decisions, so he has experience doing aspects of the GM job.
No GM is an island, that's why they surround themselves with people who have strengths and experience that the GM lacks...unless your Kahn that is.

Kahn's experience in Pro sports is he was a sportswriter, worked on the business side of things for the Pacers, and he was a lawyer at the firm that represents the major Pro Sports leagues. When the most experience you have running a pro sports team is from a video game that let's you play the GM role, it's hard to find someone who is less qualified...you would have to really look hard to find someone less qualified that Kahn.

I really like Adelman. Kind of wish he would stay in coaching.
