10:01 AM ET 04.21 | Brian Kelly lost a bet. And Blue-Gold game on Saturday was the time to pay up. So there was 347-pound nose tackle Louis Nix III in the backfield, taking a shotgun snap as Notre Dame attempted a two-point conversion. A lane wide enough to fit a semi-truck opened, and Nix stormed up the middle to the end zone. It was one of the rare highlights for the offense in a day dominated by defense. The defense, designated as the blue squad, defeated the offense, designated as the gold team, 54-43 in front of 31,652 fans at Notre Dame Stadium.

A certain SEC game that resulted in a 9-6 final score is a defensive game. 54-43 ain't.

It all depends on how they do the scoring.

Go Irish!

Do we have a quarterback controversy in South Bend?

April 21, 2013  10:37 AM ET

The reason that "Notre Dame's defense dominated the spring game", is because their offense sucks!!!! :-)

GTH, good morning!!! Yeah I'm thinking there wasn't a whole lot of defense in a 53-43 spring game!!.

SM, how are you??? Does ND even have a QB??????? :-)

"Defense dominates Notre Dame's spring game"

Translation - when ND defense plays a poor offense, they look good.

OT, I'm doing great. How goes it with you?

Yes, the Irish do have a QB, and a pretty good one at that. Gholson is getting better and better. Gunner Kiel is no longer on campus and is looking to transfer. Last I heard is he was looking at MAC schools (Oh, how the mighty have fallen!).

We also got a kid named Zaire who's going to be pretty good too. Gunner was more of a pocket passer, and to run the spread offense, you have to have a QB with much more mobility. For all Gunner's talents as a passer, he just didn't have the mobility and elusiveness that Zaire and Gholson have.

How's Wittek coming along? Will he be the starter for the season opener?

SM, I'm doing great, just getting old!!! LOL. Yeah I was being sarcastic, as usually. I knew you had Golson and he is a good QB to run your spread offense. I don't like this time of year, as there is no football and I'm not a real baseball fan!! :-)

Their dominating defense still gave up 43 points. That doesn't sound too dominating to me.

HiYa, OT! How's things shaking over on your end of the Earth?

Hey Guys,

Just so you understand the scoring - it was offense versus defense. Points were scored for things like (6 points for the defense if the offense is stopped before crossing the 50). etc. I watched the game, the offense couldn't do much. But the final score in no way represents a high scoring affair.

Hey Jon,

I'm a domer homer living in Pitt. I buy season tickets to Pitt every other year just for the ND game at Heinz Field.

Thanks.

Welcome domer-homer. Looking forward to playing your guys in September. It's at your place, so we better bring our A game.

FIFY. Around these parts, it's just "Domer." There are homers and there are homers, then, there are ND fans, who are acknowledged with the special recognition of "Domers."

I've caught you on the NBA threads on occasion, OT. Is that just desperation or are you a "real" basketball fan or merely a Kobe fan?

What can we expect from the Spartans this year? Is it going to take another life-threatening event for the coach to get the boys up to performing?
