Mark Dominik shows true brilliance in Revis trade

07:39 PM ET 04.21 | In order to fully appreciate the brilliance of Bucs general manager Mark Dominik, you have to look at two things: how the trade could have turned out and how it eventually did. When this started, the Jets wanted two first-rounders and possibly more picks. It was this news that sent Buccaneers fans into a tizzy, as that's more than overpaying for a guy who's not only going to be a free agent next season but is coming off of ACL surgery. There are serious question marks surrounding Revis, whether or not he's reportedly ahead of schedule or not. But Dominik held his own and didn't cave to the demands of a crazy person, in this case John Idzik. Rather than give up two first-rounders and then have to pay Revis a huge contract, Dominik talked the deal down to a useless first-round pick for the Bucs in 2013 and a conditional 2014 fourth rounder with maximum value of a third rounder.

...and the Jets accepted the deal. Time will tell who's the bigger fool. In any event, Revis can now *whiff* tackles in Tampa and enjoy his great big "non-guaranteed" contract.

Oh... I thought they were trying to call someone with the Jets, "brilliant".

Take deep breaths, I thought the same thing and almost fell off my chair. Had to reread it a couple of times to make sure they weren't calling the Jets brilliant. Phew, that was close!

Dominik demonstrated patience and restraint. Otherwise, Revis' health, Revis' demands, and the flailing jests pretty much drove this trade

now we need to sign charles woodson to a 1-yr. deal, sign dwight freeney to a 1-yr. deal and get him back in the 4-3 where he was dominant and give lagarette blount more carries.....

Idzik had no leverage in this deal because the Bucs were the only team to show interest acquiring Revis.

I did also, then when I got done laughing I got up off the floor and reread it.
