ACC deal halts conference realignment

03:55 PM ET 04.22 | Conference realignment will be dead for the foreseeable future, as the members of the ACC unanimously agreed on a deal that basically makes sure no team can leave.

David Glenn of ACCSports.com was the first to report the league had worked together a Grant of Media Rights deal, wherein schools grant the revenue from selling the television rights to their sporting events to the conference - even if they choose to leave. So if a school leaves the ACC before the end of this deal - 2027 - they won't be able to make any money off of the broadcast of their football games. Since the whole reason for most conference realignment is TV rights, this basically ensures nobody will leave the ACC.

The Big 12, Big 10, and Pac-12 also have similar deals, with the deal the Big 12 struck credited with saving the league from imminent demise after it had shrunk to 10 teams. Schools from the Big East could still be up for grabs, but the ACC's hottest realignment commodities - Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, and Virginia were all bandied about - are staying put.

Uhh...we can discuss B1G...no, wait.

We can talk about the SEC and .... no, not good.

How about BIGXII and OU and T....no, never mind.

We can wait until September?

Or we could hold dialogue on the various ills of each conference and whether those malignant diseases will manifest into unholy sanctions upon each conference and affected team. And the inherent unfairness of each disposition against said school and the relevant fallacies currently held by the Overseer...

Just saying

Florida State was never going anywhere to begin with. Just rumors.

ND is joining up with a very strong league and will benefit from the competition and stability--while enabling the Irish to pursue a national schedule.
A win/win all around!

Does this new ACC deal with TV rights extend to the Irish? Bet that's a "no."

Honestly, that's a shame. Your football deserves a better conference.

And you'd be correct.

April 23, 2013  01:40 PM ET

ND has their own gig with NBC for seven of their "home" games. Surely, ND's deal with the ACC includes certain other coverage arrangements. We can expect all of ND's football games to be broadcast one way or another, and ND's b'ball, baseball, softball, lacrosse, et al to be televised in accordance with ACC coverage arrangements.

Yo! Domers! Am I close?

April 23, 2013  01:51 PM ET

Conference realignment is done........unless the BIG and SEC decide it's not.
