05:01 PM ET 04.22 | New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith was named the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year award winner for this season on Monday. Averaging a career-high 18.1 points per game, the Knicks reserve shooting guard is playing the most minutes per game of his ninth NBA season. At 33.5 minutes per game in 2012-13, Smith was third on the team, an odd twist as the supposed sixth man. At the same time, he didn't start a single game for Mike Woodson's squad even though New York dealt with numerous injuries this year. Smith is also second on the team with 80 games played in the regular season.
