Elway resigned to Round 2 talent in Round 1

06:49 AM ET 04.23 | On the surface, it makes some sense for the Broncos to trade down from their spot at No. 28. First, they don't have the ammunition to trade up. They have no extra picks in the second, third or fourth rounds to package, and even those selections are late in each round. ... John Elway said Monday at his predraft news conference that while trade options will be considered, he is expecting to stand pat. "We'll get a good football player at 28," said the Broncos' football operations boss. "That's our plan right now. We'll see how things go from here to the rest of the week." But if all the NFL teams picking ahead of the Broncos do their job, Denver may not necessarily select a first-round pick with a first-round grade.

Who knew - Elway actually knows something about this draft the rest of us figured out long ago.

If a team trades down, they're only going to get worse talent... May as well grab what you can, when you can.

He's a slow learner!!!

They will take the best DE left on the board when their turn comes. Elvis left that building. P,S. A safety who does not let guys run by him in hail mary situations may be in order.

Sometimes, where you pick in the draft isn't as important as how good your scouting is.

I would say that's always true

Nah. Sometimes there's just dumb luck, both good and bad. When you get down to the late rounds, it wouldn't surprise me if a coin toss is just as effective as scouting.

If the Raiders could pick round two talent in round one, they would not be in the mess their in.

They just need to replicate the Herschel Walker for the world trade again...

Except the coin doesn't know the subtle things like, oh, which players are the kings of date rape on their campuses, which ones have apartments over pharmacies, things of that nature.

"Zero chance Peyton Manning signs with the Broncos."

Well, they are picking 28th for a reason. If Moore doesn't have the biggest defensive brain fart in NFL playoff history, Denver very well may have won the Super Bowl.

13-3 would be called successful by most...
