Holmgren committing to Bryz?

07:07 AM ET 04.23 | There aren't many playoff streaks more impressive than the one in Philadelphia, though missing the second season for the second time in 18 seasons may not lead to significant change -- even after Steve Mason was added as depth behind Ilya Bryzgalov. The point, [Paul Holmgren] said, is to protect Bryzgalov next season so he doesn't have to play too many games. "Ilya played a lot of games this year, but he's not going to play 82 games next season," Holmgren said. "You need a guy that can go in. Steve's a young guy still, he's had some success at an early age in our league." ... To be clear, I asked Holmgren if there was any basis at all to the speculation of a Bryzgalov buyout. "No," he said.

Hey Homer, if you buy him out he won't have to play any.

The bigger question is: Will Bryz commit to Holmgren? I think he wants out. He's had enough.
