Matt Calvert extended by Blue Jackets

03:17 PM ET 04.23 | The Columbus Blue Jackets have extended forward Matt Calvert with a two-year contract, the team announced Tuesday morning. Calvert is playing in the final year of his entry level deal that carries an annual average value of $891,667 against the salary cap. He was scheduled to become a restricted free agent. The new extension will begin next season and carry through the completion of the 2014-15 season. In 42 games in 2013, he has accumulated nine goals and seven assists for 16 points. Calvert averages 14:10 of ice-time per game, which includes an average of 1:11 on the penalty kill.

Looks like the only way a team improves is by firing their GM. Hopefully it works in Edmonton and Calgary should consider it.
