06:52 PM ET 04.23 | Former LSU cornerback, Tyrann Mathieu, also known as "the Honey Badger" has not played in a football game since 2011. In 2011, Mathieu was a great player, he lead LSU to a 13-1 record, their only loss came in the National Championship Game against Alabama. Mathieu was undoubtedly the star player, not only at LSU, but in all of college football. Mathieu was on top of the world, until he got into some trouble. In August of 2012, Mathieu was kicked off the team after failing multiple drug tests, then things got even worse in October of 2012 when he, along with three other LSU players, got arrested for possession of marijuana. That arrest ended any hope of Mathieu playing for the Tigers again, and perhaps his football career. Mathieu is not giving up though; he hopes an NFL team will give him another chance. A team that knows all about second chances are the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals have signed a lot of players that have been in trouble in the last decade. A ton of names come to mind, Mathieu could be the next name. Mathieu has worked out with several NFL teams such as the Bengals, Patriots and the Buccaneers, so there is some interest in him from a few teams. The million dollar, well in this case, the multi-million dollar question is: Is drafting Tyrann Mathieu worth the risk?

One year deal, not multi million. Let him prove himself.

January, 2012 - Plays in National Championship Game.
August, 2012 - Kicked off team.
September, 2012 - Vows to grow up and reform his image.
October, 2012 - Arrested again.
January, 2013 - Vows to grow up and reform his image... means it this time.

Good grief, that was a dumb question in the headline.

The Bengals did have a Reputation for signing guys with "questionable" moral character...

They seem to have gotten past that - but could easily fall back into bad habits

April 23, 2013  08:57 PM ET

Does he fit? Oh yeah.

Yep...

He'd be a good fit for a lot of teams that have picks on the 3rd or 4th round, or beyond.

He's a POThead, not a crackhead. Aaron Hernandez had pot issues and has been a productive and intregal part of the Pats offense. Randy Moss, head case he was sometimes, smoked weed all the time and played at a high level. Potheads aren't going to hurt your team, and if other teams devalue them, all the better for teams who don't care about pot. (and I don't even smoke) (anymore)

Wow, man. That is sooooo intense. You wrapped up the whole pot thing in just one sentence. You like totally dismantled all the heavy medical, social, and ethical issues the short-sighted proletariat has been weighing us down with for years. You go, Bro.

At 5'7" he should fit just about anywhere.

You feel compelled to saddle "the Bengals" with Tyrann, do you R-Ball? How 'bout ditching your title and moving the last line into it's place: "Is drafting Tyrann Mathieu worth the risk?" He may stay clean forever but the wise move would be to give it two years, see how he's holding up.

He fits alright..... Character question marks and all.

April 24, 2013  07:25 AM ET

Is Tyrann Mathieu a fit with the Bengals? It depends ... do the Bengals want a player that looks like pigeons **** on his head?

April 24, 2013  07:26 AM ET

If NFL teams released every player on their respective teams that smoked pot on a semi regular basis they would have to send 30% of their team packing.

Yep....Tyrann Mathieu will fit in.

What's wrong with that?

Nothing, except it'd probably be the starters on defense.

He's a perfect fit! Multiple arrests only need apply!

That's not "stopping", that's "running out".

I'm not sure he has been arrested enough times to make Cincinnati's team.

Ever since the Combine I have had a hunch that the 49ers would draft Tyrann Mathieu.

What I can't understand is how a player who is rated to go in rounds 3-4 gets so much press. His agent sure is trying hard to fool teams into drafting him higher than he is rated. He is a punt returner first, with the hopes of using him as a cornerback.
