Why Mike Dunlap is out of a job

07:04 AM ET 04.24 | Merely 10 months after hiring him, Charlotte put Mike Dunlap out of work. The first time I heard [Dunlap] had conducted a four-hour practice with the Charlotte Bobcats I wondered if he was really cut out for an NBA head-coaching job. Turns out he isn't. ... A source close to the team told me that in the team's annual season-ending exit interviews that Dunlap received a number of negative evaluations from current Bobcat players -- not only for those occasional long practices but for his general demeanor. Dunlap was a demanding guy who tended toward the negative. He was smart with Xs and Os and didn't mind letting you know that, but he was also snappish and hard to relate to. He was, simply, a boss who many of the players didn't like.

Another coach won't make a difference. Even a casual fan will realize that.

A great case for contrition in the No Basketball Association! It is a shame these morons can make millions of dollars and people will actually go and watch them. Drop the team and put these non-players in the "looking for employment" line.

It Was Over Before It Started, Bro.

The Bobcats finished 21-61. Apparently practices weren't long enough. Why would anyone pay any attention to what this group of misfits has to say?

First. These guys are supposed to be the best athletes in the world, and they are being paid millions of dollars. They should be capable of handling 4-hour workouts. Unfortunately, in the prima donna world of the NBA, it's the coach that gets sacked for overworking the players. This coach sounds as if he would do very well as a college coach instead.

I'm sorry, but 4 hour practices for NBA players is just plain stupid. If a coach needs 4 hours to teach offensive/defensive principles he apparently doesn't communicate/teach very well. I can see 4 hour practices before the season starts, but with the number of games and travel schedule, it doesn't make too much sense. I think you're correct, he'd be a much better fit on the college level.

So the biggest knock on the HC is that he conducted longer practices? woow MJ is really a nut case as a owner.
And just what the credentials are of these players "evaluating" their HC? Considering the roster, 21 wins is really not a bad result!!!
We did see Walker and Gilchirst improve. There's isn't much other talent worth mentioning. Ben Gordon can plus a cork in his butt.

With their record, 12 hour practices are probably needed.

Do you perhaps subconsciously believe yourself to be a misfit as well and that's why you stated the same thing 3x expecting that nobody wanted to hear what you had to say?
