'Buzz' may land Jones in the first round

06:51 AM ET 04.25 | On draft day, Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones may be headlining a group of players sneaking into the first round. [There] has been some "buzz" surrounding Jones the last few weeks. Based just on the notes I took when evaluating Jones I would assign him a third round grade due to his streaky play. However, while evaluating his play I charted out every pass he threw in the 2012 games I evaluated and when I plugged the results into the computer he ended up as the number two ranked quarterback with a first round grade. ... While I still would bet on Jones being a second round pick, there is little question he could end up being one of the final ten picks in the first round.

Well-managed teams don't draft on "buzz," and those are the teams that draft late in every round.

The only team with a final-ten pick that might use their first-rounder on a QB would be Minnesota. But, they've got 2 picks in that category. Perhaps they should go for a QB, but is this the guy?

Landry Jones in the first round? Bad Information. Someone is starting dumb unfounded rumors, like they always do around draft time. Heck, the rumor was probably started by Landry Jones' Mom.
4th Round pick.

Vegas must love it when this dude shows up.

Even Oklahoma fans don't think he can succeed in the NFL

Ron Jaworski has QB's ranked:
1. Geno Smith
2. Ryan Nassib
3. EJ Manuel
4. Landry Jones
5. Mike Glennon
6. Matt Barkley
7. Tyler Wilson
8. Tyler Bray

Jaws on Landry Jones:

This might surprise some people, but when I watch Jones, I really like his mechanics. Some guys are just pretty passers. Take former NFL star Warren Moon. He looked good in the pocket and threw a really nice ball. Jones is similarly a fluid passer. He makes all the throws and shows good balance in the pocket. If there's a blemish, I think it's that he missed far too many open receivers.

I know nothing about him, I just keep reading analysts with doubts, and hearing Oklahoma fans calling in and expressing doubts that he can be an NFL-caliber QB.

When two guys named Smith and Jones are in the lists of top QB prospects, you know there is mediocrity afoot.

Your computer ranks him #2...well there you go! Who can argue with that? He's #2!

Blemish?! That's a huge zit smack dab in the middle of his forehead.

Yeah. In college, a badly-thrown ball is an incompletion. In the NFL, it's a pick.

A year ago I thought this dude was going to be the stud QB in the draft. How quickly things change.

So it would seem. He may not even be Sam Adkins.

And a year ago we were hearing about Matt Barkley, too.
