Smith prepared to drop

06:52 AM ET 04.25 | As draft day dawned, West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith set up as one of the biggest wild cards on what might be a very unpredictable draft. He's generally regarded as the best of a somewhat pedestrian group of passers, and there are at least six teams picking in the top eight that have a legitimate need at this most important position in pro sports. Yet, Smith's landing spot remains cloudy. ... As to the potential for a long wait Thursday night, Smith quickly noted that a big first-round slide hasn't exactly crippled Aaron Rodgers' career (and, it's hardly dampened his earning potential, as Rodgers stands primed to become the highest-paid player in NFL history). "Some of the greats have sat (for a long time) in the green room," Smith said.

Which means what to Geno Smith? That he's going to magically become the highest-paid QB in the NFL some day? I don't see it.

Maybe he's hoping to slip all the way down to the sixth round so he can marry a supermodel who makes more than he does.

I still have a feeling the Cowboys will draft him...

Has that ever happened more than once?

No.

Are you sure? You do have Al Davis 2.0 as your GM.

Nah, you're right. They've stuck with Romo this long, and they just gave him too much contract, so why not assume he'll be there forever?

Some guys are still available after the 7th round. They end up marrying truck-stop waitresses who make more than they do.

I'm sure.

Linemen are on their radar.

Right, but not many truck-stop waitress models. N.F.L., anyway

On paper they make some good money, but Haslam withholds a good chunk of it.

Fixed the headline.

The Jets will take him. Rex's new strategy is to start 11 QBs so the defense won't know who is getting the snap.

There are worse things than dropping in the draft, like being drafted by the Browns, oops wait.

And there are those that go undrafted at all and end up making millions.
