Giants thinking LB, Te'o in play

06:53 AM ET 04.25 | Many NFL players weren't even born the last time the Giants last used their first-round pick on a linebacker. On Thursday night, that may begin to change. There are many people in the NFL who seem certain that the Giants will take a linebacker in the first round of the draft, 19th overall. If they do, it would be the first time they use their first-round pick on a player at that position since they took Carl Banks third overall way back in 1984. ... This year they should have a shot at several highly rated linebackers, including Notre Dame's Manti Te'o and Georgia's Alec Ogletree. Georgia's Jarvis Jones has an outside chance of sliding to 19.

From what I've read there's no chance he makes it past Pittsburgh at 17... but he should go a lot earlier.

After seeing this guy get trucked all night versus Alabama... I think not.

I'd imagine.

Hypothetically, of course...

Manti is going to drop down in the First Round. He's going to be the one everyone watches on Thursday evening, as team after team passes him by. The game against Bama is as close as Te'o has ever seen to NFL competition...and the tape doesn't lie.

Yeah, and his imaginary tackles, too. The Giants need an inside LB, but they don't need him.

On tape he tackles well when the opponent isn't looking.

I'll be happy when these "x team might draft y player" posts are done, especially for teams outside the first 10. bring on the real draft and then we can talk.

April 25, 2013  09:05 AM ET

I'm probably the last person who should talk about linebackers. A few years ago I had the Giants picking Rolando McClain, and was upset that the Raiders got him first. Had I been the GM, I probably would have gotten fired. So who do I think the Giants should pick this year? Jones if he's there (probably not); otherwise Ogletree.

That's all Te'o can do, too.

For the love of God, NY, PLEASE don't sign this idiot. Sign TEBOW before you sign this idiot!!!

You'll still get those, in past tense (should they have, why they didn't) even after the draft.

But then we'll get a month of "x player signs contract with y team for $z" threads, even though the CBA has taken all the drama out of rookie salaries.

Be careful what you wish for.

If the linebacker is good, why not? But usually Reese takes the most athletic player available. I'd rather they grab an offensive lineman this year with the first pick. Aging fast there.

I whine about the interns plenty, but I've been thinking about it lately. What kind of stories would make us happy? What kind of stories COULD make us happy in the off season? When you think about it, the whole point here is to provide some discussion topics, and we pretty much just talk about what we want to if the article isn't interesting enough to spark a conversation. It's dawned on me that I wouldn't be able to do any better than the interns. That said, it'd be nice if they didn't routinely post the same story twice in the same day, yeah?

This guy SUCKS! What are the Giants thinking?

Well that's an improvement over most NFL tackling techniques.

Yeah. And, to be honest, we need fewer stories, not more. Back in the old days, we'd get 5 stories every morning, and that would be it unless something really extraordinary happened. One of them would become the Thread of the Day and would end up being a useless chat room until everyone went home from work and stopped slacking off. But, we'd end up with interesting conversations on several threads.

Now, they keep coming in and pushing the threads that start in the morning onto the second and third page, and nobody scrolls down anymore.
