Ovechkin has a message for critics

07:08 AM ET 04.25 | The chants -- M-V-P, M-V-P-- have returned. "I hear it and it would be nice," [Alex Ovechkin] told a small group of reporters Wednesday at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. "To be honest with you, I don't focus about it, especially last game. It's more about winning." Voting for the Hart Trophy concludes on Tuesday and many believe Ovechkin needs to pull off a trifecta -- division title, goal title, points title -- to beat out Sidney Crosby for his third Most Valuable Player award. ... "It seems like people who been all over me, they can close their mouths," Ovechkin said. "Like I said months ago, if I???m going to have a couple bad games everybody will be all over me again."

Sounds like he's starting to learn a thing or two. He's been nothing short of fantastic for the Caps. As much as I'd love to see JT get the Hart nod, at this point, I would have to think OV is the front-runner.

Actually, by definition, JT should get it. But we know how award criteria is always twisted.
(as in Gold Glove award in baseball..... you need to hit, also)

JT will get his chance. That kid can play, but Ovie can too

I agree and I wouldn't have any objection to Tavares getting it this year for that matter. He's had a fantastic year and I don't think anybody expected him to carry the Isles as far as he did. Ovie is not particularly eloquent in English but I think his team understands and appreciates his enthusiasm for the game and his talent. Oates deserves more than a little credit too for getting him to concentrate on playing without worrying about media criticism. He's right.....two games in a row without scoring and we'll be reading the "What's wrong with Ovie" threads again.

I agree too. I wouldn't want to see Sid win it even if he finishes first in the points. He's missed to much time to be considered. Tavares has played well all year where as Ovie really was MIA early on.

Sid finally got passed last night by Marty St. Louis...unless Stamkos passes him, he'll be the oldest scoring race winner.
