12:12 PM ET 04.25 | Several teams have expressed interest in New England Patriots backup quarterback Ryan Mallett in the days leading up the 2013 NFL Draft and the Pats are likely to trade him according to a report from Greg Bedard. The Patriots selected Mallett in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft and would like to get more than a third round pick in the upcoming 2013 draft in exchange for their backup after two years of tutelage under Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. The likely asking price from New England is a second round pick in this year's draft or a first round pick in 2014.

A first or second round pick is awfully steep for a backup QB who has shown almost nothing in the snaps he got.

You mean you didn't like either of the snaps he took last year ? lol

Alternately, the Pats also have Mike Kafka on the roster.

But, why trade even a second-round pick for Mallett? He's just as much of an unknown quantity as any quarterback you're likely to pick up in 2013, and as for a first rounder in 2014? Better draft. If the Dark Lord does his Jedi mind trick on some GM and gets them to fall for that deal, you'll know why the Pats always seem to come up with good players when they need them.

Not a bad idea.

There's no better QB talent in this draft.

You never know. Maybe there's a Russell Wilson hidden in there somewhere. If so, though, he's hiding very well.

It's worth pursuing seeing that the Pats have only 5 picks in this years draft, 2 of which are in the 7th round.

With Hall of Fame names like Damon Huard, Matt Gutierrez, Rohan Davey, Michael Bishop and Matt Cassel, I'm surprised every team doesn't hire a scout just to keep an eye on the amazing QB talent wasting away on New England's bench.

BB's thinking that Mallet is worth at least a second just to get New Englands' playbook.
