Barkley mocks Suns GM job

06:56 AM ET 04.26 | Charles Barkley's not happenin' in Phoenix -- not yet, anyway. Barkley has not been contacted by the Suns [but] he did talk Wednesday on Brad Cesmat's "Pros 2 Preps" show (KGME-AM) and addressed the topic in his usual candid way. On [Lon Babby's] comment that Barkley might not want to do the "rowing" that the job requires: "Trust me, the people who have been rowing the boat, they've been rowing the Titanic, just for the record. The Suns are the Titanic. So the notion that I can't do better than them is ridiculous. The Suns stink. ... I made it perfectly clear that I'm going to be a GM. The Suns know my number. They know that I want to be a GM. I've had a couple opportunities that wasn't very good. I mean I'm not going to give up a great job unless I get what I want. I'm in the driver's seat. I don't need their job."

the Suns have the least talent in the NBA and it is probably not really close. I mean, who on this team would anyone say is a for-sure NBA starter and possible All-Star?

the answer is no one.

Markief Morris (2011) and Kendall Marshall(2012), their last 2 first round picks are not viable NBA starters starters. They had no first round pick in 2010 due to incompetent GM'ing. IN 2009 they drafted Earl Clark 14th who was quickly traded and has became a decent backup big man (not exactly what you want out of the 14th pick) . In 2008 they selected Robin Lopez in the first round who they promptly dealt for flotsam. In 2007 they had 2 first rounders they used on Alando Tucker and Rudy Fernandez- both which have done just about nothing for the team. The worst is when in 2006 they sold the draft rights to Rondo to Boston for about 2M in cash.

So if you are scoring at home- the Suns have not drafted a starter in a really long time..and o yah... in 2005 they drafted Luol Deng who they sold to Chicago LOL

the Suns talent base is the worst in the league. Orlando has without a doubt moved ahead of them talent wise with the acquisitions of Harris, Vucevic, and Afflalo.

The Sun Has Already Set, Bro.

I've always liked Charles, and I think he could probably be a good GM, but this probably isn't the move right now. Rebuilding the Suns will take time, money, and patience. Unfortunately, Sarver has shown that he wants to do the job on the cheap. Barkley may not have the patience, or be given the time to turn things around.

Ok, so you're the owner of a team, interviewing candidates for the GM position. And one candidate says: "(You better give me this job because) I get what I want. I'm in the driver's seat. I don't need (this) job."

CB may be qualified for the job, but this is not a good interview.

The suns are the Jets of the NBA.
Why anyone in their right mind would want to be their GM is a mystery.

April 26, 2013  01:20 PM ET

He would be a terrible GM, just get a bunch of guys that rebound and can't shoot. He continuously rips teams that shoot and don't rebound well despite the fact that the last 2 champions (Heat and Dallas) did exactly that.

Phoenix needs to be gutted, but what phoenix has that other bottom feeders don't have is location, location, location. Phoenix is a nice place to liveAnd phoenix could be a good job, if rebuilt right

True on your points. But for the Suns to be rebuilt. Sun fans should hope that Robert Sarver sales the team to anyone. He's the owner. He's was the one who hired management and told them to cut cost and sale draft picks.

Rebuilding efforts will fail if the person who made all the bad calls is still in charge.

Charles - you don't even use correct grammar. How in the world do you think you will have the ability to run an NBA Franchise?

April 27, 2013  09:36 AM ET

Charles Barkley is an idiot. If we know that as fans, it would naturally follow that those who know him personally realize this even more. That is the reason Charles can't land a GM job. Charles Barkley is best suited for what he does. Wise cracking and talking sh__ on TV. He knows nothing and doesn't have to. He is only expected to entertain. As a GM he would need to produce. No team with any sense is going to trust the future of their franchise to this clown.
