07:06 AM ET 04.26 | Next stop, Brooklyn. The New York Islanders may change their look when they move to Brooklyn, The Post has learned. The sports marketing brain trust at Barclays Center is weighing a change in the team's royal blue, orange and white team colors, sources said. Barclays Center, which will take over the business operations of the team when it moves from Nassau County as soon as 2014, is currently holding separate focus groups of Islanders fans and Brooklynites, sources added. A member of one group told the Riverhead News-Review earlier this month he was asked to rate a new team jersey without any orange, one that looked like the old Brooklyn Dodgers uniform -- blue and white.

Of note, unless the Coyotes play in front of an empty barn tonight vs. Colorado (totally possible), the Isles will finish dead last in attendance.

That is sad, but of course, it validates the move

Why the hell is there orange in the uniform in the first place? To represent Long Island's many orange groves? Agent Orange? Sponsorship with Kellogg's in which Tony the Tiger used to roam the Colisseum screaming "THEYYYYYYYYY'RE GREAT!"?

That's like asking why do the Browns have orange helmets?

Actually, Blue and orange are nassau county's "offical Colours". the cop cars also sport the same on the (white based) patrol cars. I wonder who decided this idiocy..."Official County Colours"....
Now The Mets' blue and orange is for a different reason. When the Dodgers and The Giants went to California, it left all of the NY national league fans (read: yankee haters) rather crestfallen.
So when they were awarded a team that would become the mets, they took the blue from the Dodgers and the orange from The Giants to show their N.L. heritage.
And that concludes today's "Hostory None cares About" lessson

I do hope the keep the exciting motiff that the Brooklyn Nets have opted for

I did not know that. Thanks, Spiny.

The only jersey change I'll accept for their move to BK would be the third jersey. You want to do some grey, black horror show, please go ahead. But for the love of god please leave the traditional jerseys alone!!!

As a NYer, I can confirm Spiny's history lesson.

I also agree with DL, why the eff would counties have 'colors'?!

I knew that about the Mets, but county colours? Wtf.Anyway, blue and white are obviously a combo you can't go wrong on. No harm in replicating the greatest franchise in hockey history :)

The Nordiques? The Blues? Who are you talking about?

So, what's wrong with the Gorton's fish stick unis?

April 26, 2013  09:14 AM ET

I hope the new logo incorporates the Brooklyn Bridge.

And, thanks for the history lesson, Spiny. That is interesting (to a history buff at least) and I didn't know any of it.

The Isles making the playoffs and having Tavares on their squad couldn't come at a better time. They might actually generate interest in the fanbase in Brooklyn to fill the seats. Although, isn't there some concern that the new building has bad sightlines for hockey?

Dl it's been a while since you and I have had our teams in the playoffs. It's great for us both. But throwing a comment out like that is just inexcusable!!!

So do they finally have permission to wire up the CN Tower as a giant goal light for this apparent magical post-season run?

They better have a lot of bulbs on standby since Kessel in the playoffs is the next Jari Kurri, Reggie Leach and Joe Sakic combined...
