Oilers May Look for a Goalie

11:55 AM ET 04.26 | The Edmonton Oilers got reasonably good goaltending from Devan Dubnyk this season, but it appears they may want to improve. According to a report, the Oilers like Dubnyk, but feel they are extremely thin in goal. They are going to chase after players who can help them at both the NHL level and down on the farm at AHL Oklahoma City. Nikolai Khabibulin, who often split duties with Dubnyk, will almost certainly not return after spending his last couple of seasons as little more than a distraction. It'll be interesting how hard they try to find someone who may or may not push Dubnyk. The 6'5" Saskatchewan native was around the middle of the pack in the league in save percentage despite facing the seventh-most shots in the NHL last season. He's currently 13-16-6 with a .920 save percentage and a 2.59 goals against average in 37 games played. The Oilers wrap up their season with a road game in Minnesota on Friday night and a home game against Vancouver on Saturday.

Oilers May Look for a Goalie

They've got nothing else to do.

We got one for you. Are there any bears up there?

April 26, 2013  12:11 PM ET

seems a little late for this.
Shouldn't they have thought of this when the season meant something?

Luongo? Bryz? If you've got the cap space we've got a goalie for you.

if you can get him out his bunker in Idaho.
Can you really line a goalie mask with aliminum foil?

What they don't need is another project. They need an NHL ready tender and, fortunately for them, there are a few of those available. What they can't afford to do it tie up $4 or $5 million in another, long on the tooth, ready for retirement goalie like St. Nick.

I think they may want to look for a couple of defensemen that can provide some scoring punch as well.

Well they could have looked for the goal more often.

They need some scoring... Period.

They were like 3rd lowest in the league in scoring - after stockpiling #1 picks.

Goaltending wasn't half bad

Good but .... too expensive. Soon they'll need all the cap space they can find.

They were too busy looking for another top three pick in the draft. But, in spite of their best efforts, they may fall short and have to settle for top six..

Not learning their lesson. The last #1 type pick we heard about got mad and took a different bus home.

Lucky for the Oilers, they don't ride the bus, they fly. Now, if the young man wants to get off the plane at 33,000 feet, MacT won't object. Mind you, Kevin Lowe might follow him out the door to try to persuade him to get back on the plane ... which will send whale2 into a wild celebration. :-)
