02:49 PM ET 04.26 | Peter Berg and Focus Features have come to terms with the New York Times to produce a film about former NHL enforcer Derek Boogaard. The film will be based on the series of articles written by John Branch called Punched Out: The Life and Death of a Hockey Enforcer, which appeared in the Times in Dec. of 2011. In addition to an agreement with the New York Times, Boogaard's parents have also agreed to the project. All of the money they earn from the film will be donated to a charity in Derek's name. Boogaard tragically passed away at the age of 28 due to an accidental drug and alcohol overdose while recovering from a concussion. After his death, it was determined he had advanced chronic traumatic encephalopathy, also known as CTE.

James Caan is a fav actor of mine. He and his son Scott were on that new Hawaii Five O together one time and I thought that was great.

Honestly, I understand how his family feels, but Derek Boogard does not deserve a film.
