Why Charles Barkley was bad idea for Suns GM

09:39 AM ET 04.27 | Some things in our little corner of the sports world make perfect sense: The Suns "parting ways" with General Manager Lance Blanks; the Cardinals playing it safe in the first round and taking an offensive lineman. Other things we just don't get. Like, say ... The groundswell of support for Charles Barkley to be the Suns' new GM. OK, Barkley undoubtedly would win the press conference and he'd create some much-needed buzz for a franchise that barely holds our interest anymore. But at some point, the buzz dies down and the GM has to work hard at the job and make good decisions, neither of which we can be sure Barkley will do. Just because a former player is a great quote or a national celebrity doesn't mean he should run a basketball team. For proof, we give you Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan, who is about to hire his third coach in three years and makes Robert Sarver look like Jerry Colangelo. If Barkley wants to become a general manager, let him learn from the inside, working as an assistant GM or player personnel director. If those positions are beneath him, well, then we'll know he wasn't all that serious about the job in the first place.

Charles is more a "my way or the highway" type. Probably not the best attitude for a rebuilding project.

Charles knows the game of basketball, and what it takes to win. A guy that's capable of turning that team around deserves a little head.

Charles Barkley is an idiot. If we know that as fans, it would naturally follow that those who know him personally realize this even more. That is the reason Charles can't land a GM job. Charles Barkley is best suited for what he does. Wise cracking and talking sh__ on TV. He knows nothing and doesn't have to. He is only expected to entertain. As a GM he would need to produce. No team with any sense is going to trust the future of their franchise to this clown.

Et. al. Sir Charles must be doing something right, to have so many haters.

Sir Charles wants to be the GM because it comes with a head of the line pass at the buffet.

Wait because MJ is doing a bad job, Charles Barkley will too because Barkley was a great player? That is a Skip Baseless Argument. This is your logic basing something Skip believes?

Really? How about great player who made a great GM... 'The Logo' Himself, Jerry West, look what he did for the Lakers, the team he played for! Jerry West is considered one of the greatest GMs of all time as well as one of the Greatest Players of All Time!

Look in the NFL and John Elway in Denver, he took over as a President for the team he played for and turned Denver from a joke to a Super Bowl favorite in a short time.

Unlike Elway and West who got hired for their positions, MJ is a part owner of the team buying himself that position. He did not have to earn the position the way West and Elway did.

Barkley does not have the experience but neither did West and Elway when given their chances and they have done pretty well for their teams. Without being in the Interview and hearing Barkley's proposal to turn around a team he played for. We have no idea how sound he truly is behind closed doors.
