09:34 PM ET 04.27 | The Philadelphia 76ers have acquired an NBA D-League franchise and will call them the Delaware 87s. The team will play its home games in at the University of Delaware, which is in Newark. The "87s" name is a reflection of what the 76ers and the state of Delaware have in common. Philly is famously the site of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, while Delaware became the first state to ratify the U.S. Constitution in 1787. Delaware is commonly know as the "First State". While every NBA team has an affiliation with a D-League franchise, the 76ers become just the sixth team to own one outright. They join the Spurs, Warriors, Lakers, Thunder and Cavaliers in that respect.
