Patriots unlikely to re-sign Deion Branch

12:44 PM ET 04.28 | Deion Branch has been a productive receiver for the New England Patriots in the past, but his time with the organization (and perhaps with the NFL in general) seems to be nearing its end. It seems unlikely that the Patriots will re-sign the veteran receiver at this point. That's due to the fact that the Patriots invested two picks on the wide receiver position with Aaron Dobson in the second round and Josh Boyce in the fourth round. Both receivers are regarded as potential impact players down the line, with the former seemingly well-equipped to do some damage in his rookie season.

And the first time a receiver gets hurt for a few weeks, or falters and doesn't perform up to expectations, Deion Branch will get the call. Brady and Belichick both have him on speed-dial. What's more, Branch knows where he fits in the organization, and he's happy with that.

He's a good guy, and a good player.
He made his money with the Seahawks contract, is getting older, and will be ready to step in if called.

He must be extremely thrilled with that status...

Exactly. It's the Patriot way. Thank you very much, next man up please. He's one of the more special ones that will always have some sort of role in the organization, I suspect.
