07:06 AM ET 04.29 | After two trips to Notre Dame, Elijah Hood knew where he wanted to start his college football career. The junior running back announced a verbal commitment to Notre Dame on Sunday evening, shortly after returning home from a two-day campus visit with his parents. Hood also visited Notre Dame in February. "Officially committing to The University of Notre Dame! #GoIrish #ND #BlueAndGold," Hood wrote on Twitter. The 5-foot-11, 221-pound prospect from Charlotte (N.C.) Catholic becomes the eighth recruit to commit to Notre Dame's 2014 class, and the first at the running back position. Hood ranks as the No. 12 overall recruit in the 2014 class on Rivals and No. 1 in the athlete category.

Absolutely! Van just won a couple of bucks on the lotto so he's good to go.

...if he gets the donuts made early enough.

For the past 20 years Notre Dame has been trying to sell their university experience, education and small college (compared with may of their chief competitors) atmosphere in trying to lure top notch athletes to their campus. I believe they now realize that those things are fine but success on the field is still a paramount component in drawing 3, 4 and 5 star athletes. As an ND fan I'm happy somebody there finally "gets it...!"

The Crimson Tide needs all of that? Man! You Bammers are spoiled rotten! So accustomed to the odor of sulfur are you, that the sweet smell of success either escapes your nostrils or is mistaken for decay...

Ummm, SIR...

I will have you know that my lovely and talented wife is a graduate of Notre Dame, and is as fine of a hottie as you could ever wish to have! I take large umbrage to your above statement, and hereby request a retraction.

Uncharacteristically brutish smack coming from you, Joe. May I remind you of the comely coeds that grace Alabama, and that among their most attractive qualities are charity and good will towards others.
