Jerry wants Romo to work like Manning

06:54 AM ET 04.29 | According to Jerry Jones, Tony Romo may be keeping new office hours into 2013 and beyond. The plan, according to Jerry, is to have Romo put in -- try not to laugh -- "Peyton Manning-type time on the job." ... That's not to say, Jones pointed out, that Romo doesn't already put in the necessary grunt time to be a successful quarterback. He does, the owner said, but turning the dedication dial up to 11, the Manning level, would be "a bonus." Ramping up Romo's involvement, in fact, came under prominent discussion during the Cowboys' recent negotiations over the quarterback's six-year, $108 million contract extension. "A part of what we agreed on was extra time on the job, beyond the norm," Jones said.

You see the guy put in the time and then you offer him the big contract, not the other way around. Damn I wish we had drafted Russell Wilson last year. He would have out worked Romo in training camp and may be helped Romo out the door.

Way to rally the troops Jerrah!!

*Giggles*

Spending more time at the office isn't going to fix Romo's mental collapses in big games.

April 29, 2013  07:49 AM ET

Not that Romo has done anything that great or anything, but this is what happens when idiots are allowed to own their own teams. Too bad Jerry doesn't have anyone to answer to. Sometimes wonder what team is more of a circus, the Jets or the Cowboys. Jets are probably the leaders but the Cowboys can't be TOO far behind.

Can Romo fix the defense?

And many want JJ to stop pretending to be a GM. He's not, as this draft gives further evidence..AGAIN!!!

I don't think you're being patient enough with Jerry.

Tebow has been cut. Any takers?

Turning the dial up to 11....Hahahahaha. Loved that movie.

He's only 70. It's going to take a lot of patience.

Tony wants Jerry to work like Ozzie.

Eagles and 49ers in a bidding war! No, just kidding.

Now we shall see who really likes him. Truth time.

I actually do not think that Wilson would have beat out Romo.

For 1, Romo is a better passer than Wilson. 2 - Seattle had the #1 defense in football and a top 5 run game...that is quite different than what Romo is working with.

Put Tony on Seattle's roster and he beats out Wilson for HIS job.

April 29, 2013  09:19 AM ET

I'll bet Romo wishes he could work like Manning, too

April 29, 2013  09:20 AM ET

Make the jokes you want but having Romo's input in the game plan is a big deal!

Dallas does very very well when Tony gets to run that no huddle and having Romo involved in the play calling will help big time.

In the end, this is not about Romo, this is about the 29th ranked run game and a defense that was ravaged by injuries to their DT, MLB x 2, and S x 2. If these guys can come back and stay healthy, this is a younger defense than they have had in years...with a better scheme.

I don't think Romo would beat out Wilson in Seattle, but I agree that Wilson wouldn't beat out Romo in Dallas.

There's a certain amount of inertial with a starting quarterback. Wilson got his break because there was no incumbent quarterback in Seattle. He just had to beat out Matt Flynn. Wilson made the most of the opportunity. To his great credit, Pete Carroll had a realcompetition for the quarterback position, the kind other coaches only talk about.

April 29, 2013  09:36 AM ET

So THAT'S why Romo has only won one playoff game: he's not holding enough office hours. With Jerry's logic even Timmy T can be a real NFL QB if only he held more office hours. I think Jerry is showing signs of dementia.

April 29, 2013  09:36 AM ET

Does this mean he cannot go to Cabo before a big game anymore? That's asking an awful lot for $108 million.

April 29, 2013  09:37 AM ET

JJ just can't keep his mouth shut can he?
