Twins severely underspend on pitching

07:00 AM ET 04.29 | On the flip side, Minnesota has a relatively expensive batting lineup. The Twins are spending only 22.5 percent of their $82 million payroll on the pitching staff this season, the lowest figure since the turn of the century at least, and less than half of the major league average. It's also quite a contrast to a decade ago, when the team devoted more than half of its cash to pitchers. "It's not by design. It's not like we said, 'Let's spend less on pitching and go another way,'" said assistant GM Rob Antony. "It's just the nature of having [Joe] Mauer and [Justin] Morneau as your top players, and then having a couple of guys in the rotation who aren't eligible for arbitration yet."

......maybe they are no angels-dodgers, but they kicked Texas rear with a couple good young pitchers this past weekeend......if twins can hang aroung in the central, perrhaps they can add more pitching for the stretch run....

They're a couple years away from serious contention at best.

Only 18.45 million dollars for an entire pitching staff? What's that...13 players? If that's the case then the average yearly salary would be 1.42 million.

But the team had show some poise, they have done excellent job in the offense as well in the rotation, this franchise has show a very serious responsability and had won more games than the indians all along, the twins are playing well and could compete for the pennant race, either win the pennant or not,the team has proved to every team that they will fight hard in every game!!!

We can't think or said the same thing about the halos hitters,MIKE TROUT would need to go back and get some refreshing memories in the minor league,JOSH HAMILTON SHOULD sit for a game or two, and PUUJOLS would need more than just a simple day off, everybody knows that PUJOLS injuried is more than just a injury, the team needs and most rest PUJOLS at least ten straight days in order for the player to regain some extra pain free mobility!!!

the teams have different issues but the halos are really messup in any cateegory,,rotation is weak and confuse, offense still unable to score no more than 2 runs or nothing per game, bullpen still weak and can't find the right pitch to throw for a strike!!

the twins will play hard baseball, this team isn't going to fold back and just get kicked as the astros are doing, this team is going to give a heck of a hard game to anybody WHO comes to town, the have been playing great baseball, and no team can walk in the twins house and walk away unscratched,,if is rangers bring them on, if is yankees bring them on, if is the halois bring them on,,,twins aren't a team whose name is cubs/astros/angels/padres/marlins,,,,,,

the twins could bring some top prospect pitchers from their minor league system,,there is plenty wood from the farm system, got alot to win nothing to lose!!!
