01:47 PM ET 04.29 | The New England Patriots appear to be the favorites to sign free agent defensive end John Abraham. Abraham, entering his 14th year in the NFL, played the last seven seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. In 2012, he appeared in all 16 regular-season games, compiling 35 tackles, 10 sacks and five tackles for loss. Over the course of his career, Abraham has 508 tackles, 122 sacks and 44 tackles for loss. At 34, Abraham is likely nearing the end of his time as a professional football player. Nevertheless, he has been a model of consistency in recent years, playing in 94 out of 96 regular-season games since 2007.

He could do some damage playing special schemes for the Pats. This would be a good pick up for them. They have the big boys to stuff the run, all they would need is some help on passing downs.

Abraham should do well in New England!!!

Yeah. Putting some pressure on the QB makes it a bit harder to find the big holes in the secondary.

Waiting for them to toss a few shekels at Freeney too.

Bill likes those veterans in their final year or two.
Some have been an asset (Seau), and some have been duds (Haynesworth).
I'll expect these pickups come with performance and playing time contingencies in the contract.

Seems like us Pats fans have made that an annual refrain.

We're Belicek and Parcells still with the Jets when they drafted Abraham?

Parcells last year as coach was 1999 - one year as GM in 2000
Bill Belichick was made coach for 2000, but after one day became coach for Robert Kraft.
Patriots paid compensation.
