01:24 PM ET 04.30 | Geno Smith is moving on from his agents at Select Sports, according to Liz Mullen of the Sports Business Journal. Smith will be agent-less for at least five days, with contract negotiations for rookies getting underway following the end of the 2013 NFL Draft on Saturday. Mullen did not report a particular reason for Smith's decision to look for new representation. According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, however, Smith fired his agents as a direct result of his drop in the draft. How much blame should be assigned to his agents is up for debate.

Geno... They did all they could to hype you up...

You just weren't a 1st round pick.

Time to shut up...man-up... and prove to everyone that they made a mistake.

This guys head is a problem. I saw where he came out after his selection guaranteeing playoffs and superbowl. Why... because he has arrived on the scene??!! I'm sure the Patriots are nervous now that Geno is in NY! Now he blames his agent because NONE of the NFL teams thought he was worthy of their #1 pick. Stayed tune for more headcase moves form this guy....

If his agent had anything to do with his lackluster second half of the 2012 season then the NCAA needs to look into this.

I wouldn't read too much into this... He could have fired the agent because the Big Apple is out of his league, especially considering he may be the starter now.... And who the hell is Liz Mullen ?

He's a jet now.... That's how they sell tickets.

I think he was the absolute perfect pick for the Jets. He may not really compete with Sanchez for the starting job, but he's likely to be the subject of some serious tabloid pieces for a season or two. Amazing job, Rex!

He should not fire his agent, he should fire his ability...this guy is NOT going to do squat in the NFL...especially with the Jets.

Sanchez will get traded, Garrard will win the starting gig and lose it to Geno at some point due to pressure then he will do a belly flop as well.

Does he blame his agents because he was picked by the Jets? I'm not sure they had anything to do with it, but if they did, OK, I'd fire them too.

April 30, 2013  02:52 PM ET

Not much to negociate anymore with the rookie signing bonus cap and each spot in the draft preassigned a contract figure...

Just a wild guess here... but Jay-Z has been snatching up athletes left and right at his new agency. Robbie Cano jumped on the wagon just recently.
