01:42 PM ET 04.30 | The Ottawa Senators will remain without one of their key pieces for their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series against the Montreal Canadiens. Star forward Jason Spezza will not return to the Ottawa lineup for their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series against the Montreal Canadiens as he continues to rehabilitate the disc in his back that required surgery earlier in the season. According to Senators general manager Bryan Murray, Spezza is improving, but Ottawa would have to make a bit of a run this post-season for him to return. "I suspect we would probably have to go a little distance (in the playoffs) for that to happen," the GM said on Monday. The former NHL All-Star got into five games this season before having to exit for surgery. He was off to a quick start, scoring a point in each game he played in, and ending up with two goals and three assists before having to sit out.

If Ottawa gets to see Spezza on the ice this spring you know they've done very well for themselves...

They already have.

Finishing ahead of the mighty Winnipeg Jets (with their -16 goal differential) isn't very tough to do.
The Sens didn't score as many times as some of the teams that finished out of the playoffs but they did give up 40 fewer in a 48 game sched.
They're ready for playoff since they've been playing it all season...
