04:36 PM ET 04.30 | The University of North Carolina was ineligible for last year's ACC Championship game and thus couldn't compete for the conference title and a potential Orange Bowl bid, but that didn't stop the Tar Heels from commemorating their season. UNC finished with a 5-3 record in the ACC Coastal Division and technically "won" the division via tiebreakers. The school decided to award its players with rings for this accomplishment, setting off a firestorm of controversy on Twitter.

I hope they didn't waste much money on their "5-3" rings. Plastic rings, like the kind you get out of bubble gum machines, would be appropriate.

QUOTE(#1):

Didn't Ohio St. do about the same thing? They "won" their division.

They also had an undefeated season. A little more worth commemorating than winning a division in a conference that could charitably be described as 'average'.

Want one? They'll be on E Bay later today.
