08:08 PM ET 04.30 | Geno Smith was taken by the Jets with the seventh pick of the second round. Looking back in history, the last quarterback taken with the seventh pick of the second round was also a Jet, and those Jet fans who are old enough to remember will cringe at the sound of his name. Browning Nagle. Not only is it ironic that the last two quarterbacks taken in that position are Jets, but it is scary to think that Geno Smith will be connected to Browning Nagle for the rest of his career. Taken in the 1991 NFL Draft, Browning Nagle rode the bench for most of his debut season, only attempting two passes all year. However, it is the 1992 season that he posted frightening numbers. Averaging 163 yards in 14 games, Nagle finished his season with only seven touchdowns and a mind-boggling 17 interceptions. He never really got another chance after that dismal year, and he is often considered one of the biggest draft busts in Jets' history. Now here is where it gets creepy. As previously stated, Nagle didn't play his first year, and Geno Smith probably won't play his first year because the Jets refuse to give up on Mark Sanchez. If history repeats itself, Geno Smith will start his second year and have a miserable season.

What's "th"?

This comparison seems like a stretch. It's too early to give up on the young man.

However, there are plenty of reasons to be concerned about Smith's future in the NFL. I believe Dana Holgerson was the HC at WV during Smith's best year. Holgerson's system may have inflated Smith's actual abilities. Plus, Smith has now shown he can not control his emotions. That combination just won't work in New Jersey.

If Browning Nagle's 17 interceptions in 1992 is a "mind boggling" total, what does that make Sanchez' 36 picks from the 2011 and 2012 seasons? (18 each year)

How about his 52 turnovers over that same two year stretch?

As I'm typing this I am astounded, once again, that Sanchez still is a NY Jet. I mean, doesn't Rex Ryan like his job? How the **** does Sanchez continue to play year after year?

May 1, 2013  01:25 AM ET

Sanchez has 81 turnovers in his 4 year career. That's 21 a season. Well over a turnover per game.

And for the last two years its been almost two full turnovers PER GAME. And he still has a job as an NFL quarterback. Even though every football coach in the world knows turnovers will kill you.

Talk about mind boggling...

AIYK claims it's the rest of the team's collective fault that Sanchez hasn't been to the playoffs the last two years.

Geno Smith is a ****, a thug, and an idiot. He deserves the Browning Nagle treatment.

No better options at QB.

Even if Geno turns out to be half decent, the situation with the incumbent quarterback and the expected coaching turnover is kinda setting him up to fail anyway

You'll have to excuse the typos. This was just one of those important stories that had to get aired quickly so they had no time to do any proofreading.

I'm sure he'll try to never let anyone forget that, too. Bottom line is neither of those title games was last year or the year before.
