07:02 AM ET 05.01 | Kobe Bryant feels no pain these days from his injury, but he could still be on the shelf for the next nine months. Bryant said he wasn't sure if his extensive minutes caused the injury, but said "those were choices that we have to make. It was unfortunate we had to make that push to get into the playoffs, but we did and it happened." It was his choice to average 45.6 minutes over his last seven games, he said, smiling. "Of course it was. Mike [D'Antoni] is really going to tell me when to go in and out of the game?" Bryant said the Lakers need more length, speed and athleticism on their roster. Seems like a long list, but he didn't think the team should be dismantled. He said the Lakers "could win a championship, no doubt about it."

I hope the Lakers don't amnesty him. It sounds like this will be the same team next year. Good luck w/ that. He is already convincing others that they should keep the same team because they already know each other and he doesn't want to go through the year w/ a different cast again. I hope his wish would come true. Now it's management's job to use their head and not their heart. There's a very big business decision at stake this coming summer.

With old age comes illusions. Kobe's crazy to think they have a chance. Their problems are too much to deserve fixing. Ownership, management, coaching and player personel are all question marks.

D'Antoni as coach is just a waste of time. I'm eager to see what kinda man Howard is. If he'll be smart enough to leave the nightmare behind him and join a solid franchise like Dallas or take the money and drama that comes with LA....

Either way Lakers should look to rebuild. Amnesty Kobe, trade Nash, Peace, Gasol and get something back for Howard. As for D'Antoni they need to give him a first class one way ticket.

C'mon Lost, they shouldn't break up a team that will be a championship next year. They shouldn't rebuild. Look at what happened to Dallas. Sarcasm button....lol

"Los Angeles is the best place for him," said Bryant, who continues to predict he'll be healed and ready to play in the 20131414 season opener. "It's the perfect spot for him to assert himself and have his career really take off and be what it should be. There's no greater place for centers to play than in Los Angeles."

-Kobe on Dwight Howard returning

"To me," Bryant said, "it???s a no-brainer. We've won championships with (Pau) and we need him to get where we want to go. I don't cut the checks though. All I can do is voice my opinion.

"And I told Mitch exactly how I feel."

If Howard stays, the entire starting lineup - as well as Coach D'Antoni - should stay.If Howard leaves, then break up the entire team and start rebuilding. It's one extreme or the other depending on Howard.

Howard doesn't like D'Antoni's style of play.
I believe that if he knows DA stays on as coach, he could possibly walk.
If DA is fired, Howard would stay.

"We have a lot of old guys so it was tough to do a lot of the things that Mike wanted us to do." -Dwight Howard

Dwight on D'Antoni: "We had to sell out to whatever he wanted, whether we liked it or not"

If Kobe really made his own decisions on how many minutes he'll play, wouldn't that make HIM the coach???

May 1, 2013  08:42 AM ET

D'Antoni needs to go. And although Kobe said "he didn't think the team should be dismantled."

Kobe also said "the Lakers need more length, speed and athleticism on their roster. "

Dismantled, no; MAJOR OVERHAUL, YES.

Exactly. And people said Howard could stay if they kept DA.

Smh.

I'm all for Kobe saying all the right things. But bottom line is Kobe has how long left? If he is the one in Mitch's and the buss' ear.....whether he is right or not.....it is NOT the best thing for the franchise going forward.

He'll be amnestied. Wether he likes it or not.

This summer's power struggle between Jeannie and Jim is going to be very telling about which direction the franchise is headed.

Kobe is in charge here. He brought 5 championships so he should be able to go on his own condition...

He was the coach since DA took over...

Kobe always does it his way...

Last time I checked, he did it Phil's way.
