Josh Hamilton is becoming Ryan Howard

07:06 AM ET 05.01 | Josh Hamilton hasn't always been known as a particularly patient hitter, but he's becoming less so now. The only guy who has swung the bat more often than Hamilton is Delmon Young, but 46.1% of the pitches Young has been thrown have been in the strike zone. Hamilton is pitched around more than any other hitter in the game, and yet he swings more often than anyone, with the exception of one replacement level scrub. ... [Hamilton] has a career major league batting line of .301/.360/.542. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? Well, it is broke(n), but most importantly, this isn't the approach that made Josh Hamilton an elite Major League player. This approach is new, and if he doesn't make some changes in a hurry, he's on his way to becoming the new Ryan Howard.

I don't think that's a compliment.

No. No, it's not.

It's the pressure.

You have to believe he's been told all this.

......now tell me again please what a poor job the rangers did in the off season by not breaking the bank for this quitter.....

It could be a long summer for MLB teams in So Cal.

I thought they were brilliant, I don't think they wanted to shell out for this guy at all and Hamilton ended up looking like the bad guy in the end...win-win for the Rangers.

So glad the Angels paid him 25 million a year to struggle and not the rangers. Jon Daniels looks like a genius for letting him walk.

No way a druggie wouldnt pan out after getting a monster contract

No way the Rangers should have kept Hambone after he quit on the team last September. He's got loads of talent but he's a head case as well as a recovering drug addict.
He will go on a hitting tear eventually but that won't change my opinion of him.

Well, he's not the fastest player to reach the 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 HR milestones like Ryan, so they must be talking about his penchant for swinging at bad balls.

I thought with the Jason Collins 'story' coming out recently that maybe Josh was going to come out and say he's black and free from drugs like Ryan Howard...............

there is no pressure from the boss, except from hamilton himself,,refuse to use the basics and expect to hit the ball safetely, likely impossible still thinking is too earlier?? i give the angels ten loses games, and halos should close their earlier ending season,,,

the wisdom from NOLAN RYAN was almost perffect,,,,,

only a blinded player refuse to acknowledge his continue mistakes, should hamilton sitdown for a week or so??who knows it may help him reduse the mental pressure or should MIKE SCIOCIA move hamilton to the leadoff spot?? i mean as a manager you have to try whatever to help the player and the team!!!

there is always a team/GM/owner/ WHO will sign these type of players just to fool themselves and nothing else,,,

May 1, 2013  12:15 PM ET

TOP OPTIONS FOR SCIOCIA,,,,, bench hamilton for a week/send him to the minors for a extended spring training/ put him on the 15 day DL/move him into the last spot in the lineup/move hamilton to the lead off spot!!??
