07:08 AM ET 05.01 | The injury bug that hangs over the Yankees this season has claimed another veteran, and GM Brian Cashman wasn't shy about admitting where the club erred with Kevin Youkilis. If the Yankees had it to do over, they would not have played [Youkilis] Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays. "Playing him Saturday was a mistake by everybody involved," Cashman said. The GM indicated that Youkilis tweaked his back when he slid into first base defensively in that game after sitting out the previous six games. ... Asked if this is only a 15-day injury, Cashman said, "I'm hoping for that. He was down for 23 days last April with the same issue." Youkilis was told not to bother coming to Yankee Stadium on Tuesday after receiving an epidural injection for his lumbar spine strain.

The mistake was signing him to that contract. Too much money.

That's what I thought the confession would be, here.

No kidding. I'm supposed to get this afternoon off because it's staff recognition day and I've been here 20 years. BUT, there are 5 NASA step-1 proposals due today, so my boss said I could take Friday afternoon off instead. :)

I expect to get some nasty responses from moose, Sith, Lou and barkeep for the "Wednesday" message I sent them earlier.

You received a different, and appropriate, message.

....the cream will start to rise in the east, as the sediment goes to the bottom.....yanks need to hire showalter away from orioles and rebuild....then fire him after 3 years ....win another ring the following year...simple formula....this stuff is not rocket science boys and girls....

Just remember that 1 inch=25.4mm and you'll win the business!

Will has been heating up and I hope he continues, but he was hitting .160 when I saw them and I'd bet Youk could do that with a back strain. Made a lot of sense to get the promising young guy in and say good bye to the old man, I'm not arguing about that.

QUOTE(#15):

Initially, I thought that too, but on second thought didn't think Cashman would say that while Youk was still a Yankee.

Me too, but Cash is not exactly the brutally honest type...he knows how to work the press.
