Pens prepared to open without Crosby

07:18 AM ET 05.01 | Another day, another somewhat unfulfilling update on Sidney Crosby. The Penguins may be forced to begin the Stanley Cup playoffs Wednesday at Consol Energy Center without their captain and one of their most respected leaders. Good thing general manager Ray Shero went on a trading spree a month ago. With the services of [Crosby] and Brooks Orpik in question entering Game 1 against the New York Islanders, the Penguins could be forced to rely on their depth. ... Crosby's health is the dominant storyline in the first round. Out since breaking his jaw against the Islanders on March 30, Crosby has been skating with the Penguins for more than a week but has not been cleared for contact.

Let 's Go Pens!

They aren't going to win the cup without winning some games without top guys anyways.

which of course, doesn't astop T&R from running it anyway

This is a big step for the Islanders, similar to the 07 Pens. A young fresh team with little to no playoff experience. Having to hear about the Pirates losing for 20 straight years, I can appreciate them rebuilding and making the playoffs. Will also be some nice momentum into their new arena.
That said it would take a monumental collapse for the Pens to blow this.

Now, for the Really big news! Oil Kings win series with 2-0 win over the Hitmen last night. Congratulations to Whale 2 and sincere "I told you so's" to HC. Thank you Oil Kings for saving me from having to apologize to Harry for picking a loser.................like he did!

<early Calgary tweak for HC)

You said it.

They should have NO problem winning the series, even w/o Crosby, hence no hurry to bring him back until maybe the last game of the series, whichever that might be.

However, as I have a gazillion times, I take nothing for ganted.

Here's something more interesting....

I don't want to live in this world if this NHL 2013 fantasy team can't take down the Islanders.

Yep. I am sure not one of his teammates would talk to him in the LR after that one.

I have said all the time there is something to be said for "hunger" in a player or a team.

Islanders have it.

We shall see if this Pens team does.

Do elaborate, Spiny.

Thought the Wild was going to pull it off last night, to be honest.

Couldn't agree with you more DWI. They should be able to take the Islanders, but you never know.

Is Quick on a suicide watch?

Actually he's the only reason they made it to OT. The rest of the team played like hammered dog s hit most of the night.

Well played by both teams. Could have gone either way. A knuckle nibbler to be sure. That's why I usually hate this time of year. I'm happy if we can win a game 8-1 and get 23 power plays to one for the opponent. I get dyspeptic during close games (series) etc.

Shame. But again, it will fall on him, won't it?
