03:00 PM ET 05.01 | Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby confirmed he will not play in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal against the New York Islanders on Wednesday night. Crosby missed all of March due to a fractured jaw sustained against the Islanders on March 30. He required titanium plates to mend the injury. While he has been medically cleared to resume practice, he still needs medical clearance to return to game action. Crosby stated on Wednesday that there were no setbacks but the doctor still wasn't comfortable in signing off on his return.

HOLY CRAP! ISLES MADE THE PLAYOFFS?!?

May 1, 2013  03:20 PM ET

Who is Sidney Crosby?

"the doctor still wasn't comfortable in signing off on his return."

I wonder why, although we'll never find out. Info at the Pentagon should be so highly classified as NHL medical reports.

If he misses this series, it could get interesting

A Penguins doctor nervous to let the boy go play...but why?

but the dreaded "on paper" says they should win anyway.
I think the only way they rush him back is if they NEED him

because the next big shot he takes could be the last
You can't tell me that shot didn't shake up his noggin at least a little

He's not even getting hit in practice yet. Isles catch wind of him playing without having taken a hit in 5 weeks, they'd target the hell out of him on the ice.

If no one GAF, why are we discussing it.

I think I also read somewhere:

A. He isn't conditioned where they would like him to be. Need a few more practices to build the stamina, etc.

B. They want to be sure screws are secure in the jaw. If not, infection, re-break, etc.

While I sympathize with DWI and her frustration with the reporting on this matter, I also sincerely appreciate your efforts to raise the level of dialogue. Far better to consider these matters intellectually than to continue with rank emotionalism and "scare" tactics.

With every good wish, I remain appreciatively yours,

Mr. Slapshot, esq.

That was just a dig at their previous medical practitioners...
