NCAA bans hashtags

06:17 PM ET 05.01 | The NCAA took a step in some direction by banning the silly, but not particularly harmful practice of painting hashtags on football fields.

Starting with Mississippi State in 2011, schools have put various hashtags - meant at drumming up social media buzz for the school - in their end zones, on their 20-yard-lines, and other places where fans might see them at home and tweet their support. Apparently, this irked somebody at the NCAA.

The ban was paired with a ban of custom pylons, such as those used at Oregon, but allowing the use of sponsors' names and logos on pylons, so the reasoning for the ruling could be preventing non-NCAA sponsored hashtags on fields - and clearing the way for the NCAA to earn money on on-field hashtaggery.

Follow The Money. Everything the NCAA does is about Money ... getting more for the NCAA and the powers that be. You have to give them their cut ... just like businessmen who have to give a percentage to the gang enforcer on the block. The NCAA is a Cartel and a racket.
