FSU transfer Tricket to enter QB fray at West Virginia

08:06 PM ET 05.01 | Clint Trickett will become the successor to a recent NFL draftee after all, but not in the way he'd imagined: the former FSU quarterback will transfer to West Virginia, where he'll be able to play right away.

Trickett, son of FSU offensive line coach Rick Trickett, had waited patiently behind E.J. Manuel to become Florida State's starter, and when Manuel graduated, he was next up. But Jameis Winston, considered one of the best quarterback recruits in the class of 2010, jumped the junior on the depth chart after an unbelievable spring. Thus, Trickett decided to transfer, and since he'll graduate in May, he'll be a graduate student with two years of eligibility left.

Now, Trickett joins a battle to replace Geno Smith between Paul Millard and Ford Childress, a junior who has struggled in his rare stints of action and a redshirt freshman. Trickett should be the likely winner of the battle, having completed 66 of 96 attempts for seven touchdowns and four picks at FSU, including a 336-yard outing as a freshman against Clemson.

Good luck with WVU, Clint, and good riddance.

FSU will be just fine with Jameis Winston.

Trickett picked WVU over Auburn and Fla. State.
I like him already.

I've always wanted to "enter a fray".

Is that different than entering a fracas?
