07:08 AM ET 05.02 | For the first time in four years, someone other than the Oilers will be announcing the first player selected in the draft. Picking No. 1 will be 29th place Colorado Avalanche with the Oilers selecting seventh. And [Craig MacTavish] offered a very broad hint that the Oilers will quite likely be trading that pick when he held his first ever year-end press conference Monday morning. It was a remarkably candid, surprisingly honest and totally refreshing session. ... [MacTavish was asked] if eight might be about the right number of new players to expect to see wearing the Oiler uniform next year. "I think that's fair," he said. "There's going to be some significant and meaningful change for sure."

Well done GMDL...

We need a damn centreman. Clearly.

Shots on the other team's net are pretty important.

QUOTE(#5):

So is not playing Mike Kostka. Or dressing freakin Orr and McLaren in the playoffs.Good luck tonight, sir.

You were one of the few Leafs fans that knew in order for your boys to have some playoff success they needed to be playing Montreal.

Even the Bs fans were worried but you knew Toronto doesn't play them well.

Have to agree...and it looked really bush with Orr and McLaren on the ice near the end of the game as well.

Not exactly expecting a rip-roarer this evening...

QUOTE(#7):

And in the end I don't even mind the fact that the best we will get out of the series if 5 games, because I really think this will give the execs an idea of what the team needs going forward to compete. But for the love of god, did they really have to allow themselves to get the crap kicked out of them like that? I'm not expecting victory, but there's a way at least to get fight out of them and this sure as hell wasn't it.

You never know what can happen in these games.

I don't think the Bs should expect the same team they played in Game 1. Your team could pull off something entirely different in Game 2.

I say same about my team. No team should feel overly confident after Game 1 in the playoffs.

And about 6 D men.

That was a collectively putrid display last night. Kostka may have been on the ice for most of the goals by Celine showed the world just what he is (not) capable of. Pathetic

Outside of JVR, the entire team just wasnt there last night.

Will they learn and improve? Time will tell.

An excellant proposal btw. Since it would seem to make sense for all involved, it could even happen.

You need to graduate from fandom to team executive. You would be the most intelligent in Toronto since 1967.

I'd be pretty pissed too if I waited 9 years for that abomination. The only consistency was their lack of effort was matched by their lack of skill and heart.

Gonna have to fight. Bruins are already awake.

Although Chara was hilarious on the Leafs' goal. I laughed too hard at that which put the old hexola on the Leafs for the rest of the game. Sorry DL...

And HAHA Barca as well....

QUOTE(#14):

I really am just hoping they don't assume they have a constant playoff contender as is and stop looking towards the future. This is one season I actually wanted them to sputter, because the draft seems like it's loaded with talent (thus why I predicted a mid-may season end for them - they never win when I want them to, never lose when I want them to).

Understood. This post season, and probably next, should be interesting for you. Actually for Washington too. Although they are doing well (now) they have pieces which need changing very soon.
