01:04 PM ET 05.02 | The Phoenix Suns are down to their final three candidates for their GM job as they try to rebuild from the second-worst season in franchise history, with rising front office star Ryan McDonough battling Bucks assistant Jeff Weltman and Jazz assistant Scott Layden for his first coaching gig.

McDonough has been credited with convincing the Boston Celtics to select Rajon Rondo, rising through the team's ranks to become assistant GM despite never having played basketball at a high level. Weltman was supposedly one of the top candidates two years ago, when the team opted to choose the now-fired Lance Blanks, and LAyden was responsible for building the highly successful Utah Jazz teams of the late 90's and dismantling the highly successful Knicks teams of the same period.

The team has already begun interviews and is expected to make an announcement "soon".

No Barkley? :-O

Should they find some with lineage that traces back to the Spurs?

I hope they get someone that can turn that franchise around. They wasted their best years with D'Antoni as coach.

Get Barkley... And remember to keep him away from the buffet line.
