NCAA allows 6-7 teams into bowls

12:25 PM ET 05.03 | The NCAA will allow teams with 6-7 records that lost their conference title game to play in bowl games. Previously teams needed a waiver to compete, but the NCAA decided to eliminate that clause. In recent years, the 6-7 situation has happened to two teams. The 2012 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets qualified for the ACC championship game with a 6-6 record and finished in a three-way tie with Miami and North Carolina in the Coastal Division. Both Miami and North Carolina were ineligible due to postseason bans, and Georgia Tech went on to lose to Florida State in the ACC title game. The 2011 UCLA Bruins qualified for the Pac-12 championship game after finishing second in the Pac-12 South. With first-place USC ineligible for the postseason, UCLA ended up losing to Oregon in the conference title game.

What kind of loser alumnus would you have to be to follow your losing football team to a minor bowl in a 4th rate city?

OK, I'll take the bait (for bowl games, not cities themselves):

1st - LA, San Diego, Miami
2nd - Phoemix, New Orleans, Houston, DFW, other FL, other CA, Vegas
3rd - San Antonio, Atlanta, Charlotte, El Paso

All others 4th...

Hey, now, bash Dallas all you want, but you slander H-town and it's ON, brother!!

Well that is one way to fill up all those meaningless bowl games. A limited playoff but more mediocre games.

ok, you have to admit that the big plus on these places is that if you spend 2-3 days for a bowl game, there has to fun stuff, cultural attractions to keep the fans (boosters) happy.

Plenty to do and decent weather in the 4th and 5th largest metro areas

May 3, 2013  03:16 PM ET

I would be embarrassed if FSU went 6-7 and accepted ANY bowl bid. Teams shouldn't even be bowl eligible with a .500 record. This is getting ridiculous.

ok dallas is #2 bc of jerry world, but if Houston is #2, then so it Atl. No way ATL should be lumped with Charlotte and El Paso.
