Weeden not promised Browns' starting gig

03:46 PM ET 05.03 | Rob Chudzinski won't guarantee anything to Brandon Weeden, telling a Cleveland radio station that it was "too early" to commit to promising anybody a starting job.

Weeden, drafted by Chudzinski's predecessor, Pat Shurmur, had a pretty mediocre rookie season, throwing 17 interceptions against 14 touchdowns. The team brought in Jason Campbell in the offseason as competition. Normally, this would be a veteran meant to back up and mentor a guy in his second season, but at 29, Weeden is just two years younger than Campbell. Chudzinski makes it seem as if there will be open competition:

"I expect both of these guys to compete. I don't know any other way. Anybody that's on a team is competing from my standpoint. We want to put these guys in a situation, give them every chance to succeed and we'll see how that all plays out. I'm hoping that the best man wins the job and that he gives us a chance to win."

The Browns start OTA's next week.

It's still Weeden's job to lose, no matter what they say. Campbell will bring you stability but mediocrity.

I doubt it matters who's gonna be starting for the Brownies...

Another long year on Lake Erie...

He shouldn't be. Only Tebow is entitled to one of those.

Oh, wait....

If the Browns were like the Jets, that would be a big improvement for them.

Saying a fan of who? Come on, the Jets? Their starting qb wears a head band in his hair like girls did in the 80's.

Feel sorry for the fans of the team where Jason Campbell is competing for the starting job.
