Jaguars take chance on Justin Blackmon, but not Tim Tebow?

12:20 PM ET 05.04 | Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon, the teams' No. 1 draft pick last year, has been suspended for the first four games of next season after violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy -- his third substance-related incident in less than three years. Blackmon has been arrested for two DUIs and now this incident. I guess we shouldn't be surprised. The NFL gives multiple chances to drunks, druggies and delinquents, but won't give Tim Tebow one legitimate shot. Isn't it sad? The Jaguars will take a chance on a substance-abusing wide receiver, but won't take a chance on Tim Tebow -- a proven winner, a hometown hero and a role model to people throughout the world. The Jags' organizational stance on Tebow bafflingly seems to be this: "He's the most popular player in the league who has won at every level and could sell tickets and make us interesting. Why in the world would we want THAT?"

The guy's not even on a team and he makes headlines.

Then people wonder why no team is interested in the Tim Tebow circus.

I really should re-word that to the Tim Tebow media circus.

It's really the media much more than the player.

I don't see what the chance is. You already know what you're going to get with Tebow. It just doesn't translate to the NFL game on a regular basis.

I still think his best shot is to head north and learn how to be a pro QB.

Or finish whatever career he has in the Arena League.

I can understand why the Jags wouldn't want Tebow Time. The team would have to change their uniforms, can't see Tebow wearing animal skin patterns to battle, it would be sacrilegious for him.

Apparently not having an NFL team means the local paper knows nothing about the NFL either.

Risk vs reward. One is a character risk, the other a distraction risk. The Jags have enough issues without adding more to the pile.

Fifty still hanging in there, eh?

In that case - go with talent.

Signed - Jerry Jones

Couldn't possibly have anything to do with Tebows' complete lack of skills could it?

The only quote I want to hear from Jerry is "I'm retiring and turning it over to Stephen."

I wouldn't say complete lack, just not enough to carry him as a starting QB in the NFL.

Weak sauce. Lots of ways you could dis him, this is just unfunny and unintelligent.

Last time he was a starter, he took a 1-4 team to the playoffs, won 6 in a row on the way. The Broncos didn't drop him because of a 'complete lack of skills', they just won the Manning sweepstakes.

It's hard to hold anything that happened in New York against Tebow. Ryan is a good motivator, but he's not a good strategist. His refusal to play Tebow, despite the extensive work that he did on his mechanics (he completed 75 percent of his throws for the Jets) shows how bad Rex is at running a team.
