11:59 AM ET 05.04 | Felix Doubront and the Red Sox are at a loss for why his fastball topped out at just 92 mph tonight. After the 7-0 loss to the Rangers, Doubront said, "It's weird, man, it's nothing that's bothering me -- it's so weird, I can't explain it," said Doubront, whose ERA rose from 4.24 5.67 with the outing. "I'll just keep throwing, and we'll see." If Doubront is going through a dead arm phase, that could explain it, although after the game, the Red Sox did not seem to have concrete solutions.

Stick a fork in him...

PEDs wore off.

Send him down to Pawtucket for rest and time to find some answers.
It was painful to watch him struggle last night.

You showed up for spring training out of shape and overweight. There's nothing weird about the loss of velocity, man.

Move him and make room for Webster in the rotation.

Agree. (Also with SportsFun and Hatrunner).

I believe he's out of options, which means he would have to clear waivers to send him outright to Pawtucket. And there is no way he wouldn't get claimed by somebody. The old dead arm stint on the DL is the more likely scenario.

I can't believe coming into camp overweight affects your performance. Shocker.

Good intel; If out of options , then it's the DL and some rehab starts in Pawtucket to follow.

And this is exactly what has happened. Doubront has been moved to the bullpen and Webster has been added to the starting rotation. He will get his second start of the season tomorrow night against the Twins. I hope he sticks.
