05:42 PM ET 05.04 | A second-round selection in the 2013 NFL Draft, most have penciled Manti Te'o in as a starter for the Chargers as a rookie but fellow-Chargers linebacker Donald Butler isn't convinced. The veteran told Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune that a starting spot in the defensive lineup isn't given to any player and that the rookie will have to prove himself before he earns the role. "I think a lot of people are jumping to conclusions," Butler said. "He has to come in and prove himself as a starter. Obviously, it would be nice -- that's why you draft someone in the second round. We don't know how he's going to be in the NFL. I hope he comes in and he's a superstar. Hopefully we can create something that will carry us for the next four, five, six years."

This is total B S a starting role anywhere is a how are you playing today call. You shouldn't "earn the starter role" for the season just for the next game. Then if you stink it up you ride the pine and your backup comes in. Vets should not get a preference.
