Magic Johnson wants LeBron to get more TV exposure

06:31 PM ET 05.05 | Magic Johnson wants to know why four-time MVP LeBron James isn't in more commercials. "I'm in disbelief. Chris Paul and Blake Griffin has *sic* more commercials than LeBron James. I can't believe that. In all my 35 years, I've never seen an MVP, back-to-back winner ... not have any endorsement deals, not have any commercials on TV? Every time I look at the TV, I never see any LeBron James commercials," Johnson said while on set with ESPN. While LeBron may not have a million car or insurance commercials like Griffin and Paul do, there's no denying how big LeBron's brand is. He has endorsements with Nike, including his own line of shoes, as well as with McDonalds, State Farm, Coca Cola and others. James has never been one to stir up unintended controversy, although it will be interesting to see if he responds to Magic's comments with a few new TV spots.

Speaking of commercials, I've always found it funny that LBJ does McDonalds commercials.

Judging from his physical appearance it's been a LONG time since LeBron gorged on a McDouble and large fries.

False advertising, IMO.

We don't need anymore Lebron commercial. His head is gonna get bigger if he gets more. He has enough endorsements.

"Magic Johnson wants LeBron to get more TV exposure"...

Hey Magic, you think he should have another "the Decision" special when the time comes to re-sign with Miami or tell the world he's heading to the Lakers... I mean the Cavs!

You know Tragic Johnson, back when the Spurs were winning MULTIPLE championships, not one of those guys were constantly on TV or famous to the height that the major stars mentioned are famous now. Just gonna have to live with the fact that some players are more marketable than others. It sometimes does not have much to do with talent at all.

It's almost like, why can't the ugly geeky 1 billion IQ guy get a hot girlfriend? Oh he's smart, he's got a great career, he's well respected in his field, etc etc. That's just how it is, unfair or not.

Why isn't he in more commercials? Because the egomaniacal, self-serving "Decision" TV special ruined a lot of goodwill that he had. People respect his talent, but that doesn't meant they like him personally.

You Can't Always Get What You Want, Bro.

May 6, 2013  10:25 AM ET

Nobody likes a fake. "Everything I do I do for you LBJ once said about Akron/Cleveland area before he dumped em Ever since dog and pony "the decision" farce which David Stern commented LBJ got some bad advice on the perception is the guy is a fake. I don't believe a word comes out of his mouth or facial expression isn't vetted by 10 people beforehand.

May 6, 2013  10:14 PM ET

LBJ is still not universally liked. A lot of ppl not only are indifferent to him, but actively hate him. Also it might be he does not agree or want to be associated with some brands. Look at Steve Nash. A 2 time MVP who is in very few commercials. Or even Tim Duncan, not the same category per se, but also an amazing, if not the best PF in the game, in very few if any commercials. It may be a combination of perception or personal choices, but some ppl are more or less marketable than others, or have stronger morale's.

It's called triple therapy, it's not a secret. He just got it before most people cause he could afford it and he was a celebrity

Simple answer is that he is not a trusted individual. The decision hurt his brand and reputation forever. Many people in sports and the NBA did not fully and to this day don't fully grasp how bad Lebron branded himself a trator and despicable in the eyes of the public. I'm a Lakes fan and still felt sick about it and sorry for Cleveland it just showed zero class. That translates into dollars Magic of all te sports people should grasp this concept Lebron is toxic.
